Hupa Language Teaching Credential (HLTC)

Supporting Hupa Language Teachers.

American Indian Languages Credential

The Hoopa Valley Tribe has created a credential process for Hupa Language Teachers. This process is housed within the Hoopa Tribal Education Association of the Tribe and we are thrilled to partner with them to help support this process.

Those who complete the process to obtain their Hupa Language Credential and are approved by the Hoopa Valley Tribe are eligible to apply for their Preliminary Credential in American Indian Languages through the State of California’s Teacher Credentialing Program.

These credentials allow a person to teach Hupa Language at a California public school and be eligible for the salary and benefits of a credentialed teacher. Additional information on the state process can be found below:

Tribal Process for Credential

For additional information about the Hoopa Valley Tribe’s HLTC Process, please contact the Hoopa Tribal Education Association.

Support for Credential Candidates

Individuals who begin the Tribe’s process for their HLTC are eligible to receive support through a LLGP grant obtained by the Tribe through the Office of Indian Economic Development.

This financial support is intended to help the credential seeker and their mentor teacher(s) financially during the process as it involves many hours of training, student teaching and curriculum development.

If you are interested in this financial support, please contact Hoopa Tribal Education as (530) 625-4413.
