About

We Are Committed to Language Resurgence and Education

We exist to empower our community by reviving the Hupa language and culture in children.

Reconnecting

Our Mission

At Xine:wh-ding we are dedicated to reclaiming time and space to reconnect our children to their roots, provide them with a sense of belonging, and equip them with the tools they need to navigate the world.

We believe that language is the foundation of identity, carrying within it the stories, values, and traditions that define who we are as a people.

Through innovative programs, dedicated educators, and the collective efforts of our community, we are building that future—one word, one story, and one lesson at a time.

our path

A Timeline of Progress

Since 2013, we have celebrated significant milestones that reflect our commitment to cultural preservation.

We launched our first Hupa Language Immersion initiative, setting the foundation for future revitalization efforts.

2017

First Xontehł-taw (Coyote) Hupa Language Immersion Summer Camp

Our inaugural summer camp introduced immersive, learning experiences for children based on our traditional stories.

2018-2019

Expanded Immersion Camps

We added multiple seasonal camps, including Spring Break and additional summer sessions, to reach more children throughout the year.

2020-2021

Virtual & Home-Based Language Learning Initiatives

To continue language learning through the pandemic, we adapted our Summer School and Spring Break Immersion Camps programs to a virtual format.

2022

Nohk’isdiyun Nohoł Baby Groups Begin

We introduced the first round of Nest Baby Groups, focusing on early language development for infants and toddlers and launched a Hybrid Summer school program.

2023

The Hupa Language Immersion Nest is launched, providing a full day immersive experience for students 18-36 months. We also initiated a second round of Nohk’isdiyun Nohoł Baby Groups.

2024

Growth and Expansion

We expanded the Immersion Nest’s schedule and class size, while continuing to develop the Baby Groups, summer camps, and community outreach programs.

2025-Beyond

Building a New Generation of Speakers

We will continue to strengthen community learning and intergenerational language connections by growing ] the Immersion Nest to include Kindergarten, adding new grade levels each year so that we may serve our current Nest students through 8th grade and beyond.

Our work will cultivate a new generation of fluent Na:tini-xwe Mixine:whe speakers, the first our community has seen in decades.

Our Team

Dedicated to preserving and revitalizing the Hupa language.
